Question 1

How do I create an account?

Accepted Answer

Visit the registration page and sign up with your email address and a secure password. You will need to check the box confirming you agree to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. A confirmation email will be sent to verify your account before you can log in.

Question 2

How do I reset my password?

Accepted Answer

Click "Forgot password?" on the login page and enter your email address. You will receive a link to create a new password. The link expires after a short period for security reasons.

Question 3

How do I change my email address?

Accepted Answer

Go to your Profile page and update your email in the account settings section. A confirmation email will be sent to your new address. Email changes are rate-limited to prevent abuse.

Question 4

How do I update my profile picture?

Accepted Answer

Navigate to your Profile page and click on your profile picture or the edit icon. You can upload a new image which will be cropped to a square aspect ratio. Supported formats include JPG, PNG, WebP, and HEIC — the format iPhones use — so you can upload a photo straight from your phone.

Question 5

How do I change my timezone?

Accepted Answer

Click on your avatar in the top-right corner of the app to open the dropdown menu. The timezone picker is located inside this menu with a searchable list of all timezones.

Question 6

How do I switch between light and dark mode?

Accepted Answer

Click on your avatar dropdown and select "Theme" to open Settings > Preferences, where you can choose between Auto (follows your system), Light, and Dark modes.

Question 7

How do I delete my account?

Accepted Answer

Open Settings (from your avatar menu, or More on a phone) and choose "Delete Account" at the bottom. This permanently removes all your personal data, events, friend connections, chat messages, media files, AI conversation history, and associated information. This action cannot be undone.

Question 8

What subscription tiers are available?

Accepted Answer

MOE offers three plans: Free, Pro (…/mo) and Extra (…/mo). Paid tiers unlock expanded availability pools, increased storage, a monthly AI assistant budget, a texting allowance for texts your guests get about your events, and other premium features. Free accounts can try the AI assistant with a one-time free AI credit. You can upgrade or downgrade from your Profile page.

Question 9

How do I set up SMS alerts?

Accepted Answer

Text alerts are free to receive on every plan — hosts cover the texts about their events. Go to Settings > Notifications and add your phone number. You'll need to verify it with a 6-digit code sent to your phone. Once verified, you can enable SMS for event reminders and configure quiet hours to avoid alerts during sleep.

Question 10

How do I create an event?

Accepted Answer

Click the "+" button on the calendar page (or the center button on mobile), or use the AI assistant to help create an event with natural language. Fill in the event details including title, date, time, location, and description. Choose between RSVP (free) and ticketed (paid) event types. Note: You must be 18 or older to create paid events.

Question 11

What is the difference between RSVP and ticketed events?

Accepted Answer

RSVP events are free — attendees simply confirm their attendance. Ticketed events require attendees to purchase a ticket through Stripe. Hosts set ticket prices and types (standard, premium, VIP, group) and receive payouts through their connected Stripe account. Only users 18+ can create ticketed events.

Question 12

How do recurring events work?

Accepted Answer

When creating an event, you can set a recurrence pattern (daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly, or yearly). Each recurring instance is managed independently — attendees can RSVP to individual instances, and you can modify or cancel specific instances without affecting the series. You can also add exception dates to skip certain occurrences.

Question 13

How do I set a capacity limit for my event?

Accepted Answer

In the event creation dialog, set the "Max Attendees" field. The displayed capacity is exactly what you set (e.g., max 10 shows "x / 10 attendees"). Once the limit is reached, new attendees join a waitlist if enabled. For recurring events, capacity is tracked per instance.

Question 14

Can I edit or cancel an event after creating it?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Open your event and click "Edit" to modify details. For recurring events, you'll be asked whether to edit just this instance, this and future instances, or all instances. To cancel, delete the event from the event details page. Attendees and ticket holders will be notified. For ticketed events, you are responsible for issuing refunds before cancellation.

Question 15

How do I RSVP to an event?

Accepted Answer

Navigate to the event details page and click the RSVP button. Your options are "Going," "Maybe," or "Not Going." You can change your response at any time before the event starts. If the event is full, you may be able to join the waitlist.

Question 16

What happens when I join a waitlist?

Accepted Answer

When an event is at capacity, you can join the waitlist. If a spot opens, waitlisted attendees are notified in order. For ticketed events, you'll have a limited-time window (typically one hour) to purchase a ticket before the offer moves to the next person.

Question 17

What is the "Host Attending" toggle?

Accepted Answer

This toggle lets hosts choose whether they count as an attendee. For RSVP events, turning it on means you're automatically counted as attending. For ticketed events, it means you reserve a spot without purchasing a ticket. Turning it off means your spot is available for others.

Question 18

What are event bio questions?

Accepted Answer

Hosts can enable a questionnaire for their event from 24 categories (interests, lifestyle, profession, etc.). Attendees can answer these questions with per-question privacy controls. Responses are visible on the event details page to help attendees learn about each other.

Question 19

Can I add co-hosts to my event?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can designate co-hosts who can help manage your event. Co-hosts receive special privileges. Note that if a co-host declines their RSVP or marks "Maybe," they will lose their co-host privileges — a warning dialog will confirm this before proceeding.

Question 20

Can guests RSVP without a MyOwnEvents account?

Accepted Answer

Yes. When you invite someone by email who does not have a MOE account, their invitation email includes a secure personal link that lets them respond Going, Maybe, or Can't Go to a free event without signing up. Hosts can also text a guest their personal RSVP link right from the guest list — the text is sent from the host's own phone, not by MOE. Each link is unique to that one invitation and can't be shared or reused. Ticketed events still require an account at checkout. Accepted guest RSVPs count toward your event's capacity just like everyone else's.

Question 21

What shows up when I share an event link?

Accepted Answer

When you share an event link — by text, WhatsApp, Telegram, or another app — the recipient's app shows a preview card. For public events the preview includes the event's cover image, name, and description. For private events the preview shows only the cover image (no name, date, or location), so people recognize who the invite is from without exposing the details. Anyone who receives the link can see this preview, so share event links only with people you mean to invite.

Question 22

How do I host events as an organization?

Accepted Answer

If you manage an Organization profile, you can host events under your organization identity using the "Host as" picker. Organization profiles have a public page with your logo, description, team, and follower count, and you can choose which events appear there. The features available to an organization (such as pinned events and Tip Jar/Fee Free Payments) depend on its plan. On Organization Pro, one person — the owner or a teammate they choose — gets the plan's AI tools, voice minutes, texts to guests and higher limits for the organization's events (to talk as the organization, choose it under “Talk as” before starting a voice call); on Organization Pro Plus, several teammates share one monthly allowance. Anyone whose own plan gives more keeps the higher amount. Owners manage seats from the Control Panel's Billing tab. Organization owners are responsible for their team members' actions.

Question 23

How do I purchase tickets?

Accepted Answer

Navigate to the event details page and click "Buy Tickets." Payments are processed securely through Stripe. You will receive a confirmation email with your QR code ticket after a successful purchase. You can also buy tickets for other people, including people who are not on MyOwnEvents.

Question 24

What payment methods are accepted?

Accepted Answer

We accept all major credit and debit cards through Stripe, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. Payment availability may vary by region.

Question 25

How do refunds work?

Accepted Answer

Refunds are governed by the host's refund policy, which may include a deadline (hours before the event) and auto-refund on cancellation. To request a refund, contact the host through the platform. Once processed, refunds take 5–10 business days to appear on your statement. Note: Stripe processing fees are not refunded, but MOE's platform fee is.

Question 26

Where can I find my QR code ticket?

Accepted Answer

After purchasing, your QR code is available on the event details page under your ticket info. It's also in the confirmation email. Present it at the event for check-in. Each QR code has a tamper-detection signature and is valid for a single use only.

Question 27

How do I set up Stripe Connect to receive payments as a host?

Accepted Answer

Go to Settings > Payments and find the Stripe Connect section. You must be 18 or older. Follow the prompts to connect your Stripe account. Once connected, you receive payouts typically within 2–7 business days. By default the buyer covers the fees, so you keep 100% of your ticket price; if you instead choose to absorb the fees, Stripe's processing fee (approx. 2.9% + $0.30) and MOE's 2% platform fee are deducted from your payout.

Question 28

How does QR code check-in work for hosts?

Accepted Answer

Go to your event's check-in page from event details. Use the "Scan QR Code" tab to scan attendee QR codes with your device camera. You can also manually check in attendees from the attendee list tab using their ticket number.

Question 29

What fees apply to ticket sales, and who pays them?

Accepted Answer

Each ticketed event has two fees: Stripe's payment-processing fee (about 2.9% + $0.30 per card; lower for bank/ACH) and MOE's 2% platform fee. By default the buyer pays these as a service fee added at checkout, so the host keeps 100% of the listed ticket price. A host can instead choose to absorb the fees, in which case they're deducted from the host's payout. MOE's fee is 2% either way — only who pays it differs. The exact amounts are shown to the host when pricing a ticket and to the buyer before paying.

Question 30

If I get a refund, do I get the fees back too?

Accepted Answer

A refund returns the ticket price only. The service fees (Stripe's processing fee and MOE's 2% platform fee) are non-refundable — Stripe does not return its processing fee on refunds, consistent with standard industry practice. This is disclosed at checkout before you pay. Refunds are processed to your original payment method and take about 5–10 business days.

Question 31

How does Tip Jar/Fee Free Payments work?

Accepted Answer

Eligible hosts can add their Venmo, PayPal and/or Zelle handle in Settings → Payments. Those handles do two jobs: tip buttons appear on your events, and guests can use them to pay their share of a Split the Cost event with no processing fee. Money deep-links straight to you and never passes through MOE or Stripe, so there is no platform fee — which also means it is not refundable through MOE, and MOE cannot confirm it arrived (the host confirms receipt). We log only an anonymous tap (never the amount) for your analytics. Availability can depend on your subscription tier, and at least one handle is required before you can publish a Split the Cost event.

Question 32

How do I sync my Google Calendar?

Accepted Answer

Go to Settings > Connected Calendars and click "Connect Google Calendar." Authorize access through Google. Your events appear as busy-time blocks on the MOE calendar. By default, only busy/free status is shown (titles hidden for privacy) — you can optionally enable title display.

Question 33

How do I connect my Apple Calendar (iCloud)?

Accepted Answer

Go to Settings > Connected Calendars and click "Connect Apple Calendar." You'll need your Apple ID email and an app-specific password (generated at appleid.apple.com, not your main password). Once connected, your iCloud calendar events appear as availability blocks. You can toggle sync per calendar.

Question 34

How do timezone settings affect my events?

Accepted Answer

Events are always displayed in the timezone set by the creator. Your personal timezone (set in the avatar dropdown) determines how times appear throughout the app. When creating an event, it uses your current timezone by default. Drag-and-drop preserves the original timezone.

Question 35

What is friend availability?

Accepted Answer

Friend availability shows when your friends are busy or free, displayed as colored pills on the calendar (green = available, yellow = some busy, orange = mostly busy, red = all busy). You can filter by friend group. This helps find the best time for events. Friends control their visibility in privacy settings.

Question 36

Which friends are included when MyOwnEvents checks availability?

Accepted Answer

Each plan checks a set number of friends' calendars — 100 on Free, 500 on Pro and 2,000 on Extra. You can have as many friends as you like; the limit only decides whose calendars are included in the availability math. If you have more friends than your plan covers, we pick them in this order: your Priority friends first, then the friends you interact with most (events you have invited them to, events of yours they have attended, and recent chats with them — chats count the least and only from the last month), then the friends you connected with most recently. Mark someone as a Priority friend on the Friends page to guarantee they are always included.

Question 37

Can I view different calendar layouts?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the calendar supports month and day views on mobile, plus week view on desktop. Switch between them using the view controls. The day view shows an hourly time grid with availability pills on the right edge.

Question 38

What is Smart Scheduling?

Accepted Answer

When creating an event on mobile, the "Find the Best Time" step analyzes your friends' availability to suggest the top 4 time slots when the most friends are free. Select a friend group, date range, and time preference to get ranked suggestions.

Question 39

How do I add friends?

Accepted Answer

Go to the Friends page and use the "Find Friends" feature to search by name or email. You can browse users by network degree (direct connections, mutual friends, extended network). Send a friend request with an optional personal message. Once accepted, you're connected as friends.

Question 40

How do I follow an event host?

Accepted Answer

Visit a host's profile or event page and click "Follow." Following means you'll see their public events in your feed and receive notifications for new events. Hosts can disable following in their profile settings.

Question 41

Can I block another user?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Block a user from the Friends page or their profile. Blocked users cannot see your events, send friend requests, message you, or interact with you on the platform. You can unblock at any time from your Friends page.

Question 42

What are friend groups?

Accepted Answer

Friend groups let you organize friends into custom categories (e.g., "Work," "Family," "Sports Team"). Groups make it easier to invite specific sets of people to events and view their availability together. You can also use system groups like "All Friends," "Close Friends," and "Local."

Question 43

How do I invite people who aren't on MOE?

Accepted Answer

Use the "Invite" tab in the Find Friends dialog. You can share a referral link via SMS, WhatsApp, Email, or Telegram. You can also import contacts from a CSV or vCard file, or send a manual email invite with a custom message.

Question 44

How do I start a chat conversation?

Accepted Answer

Click the chat icon in the top-right header (or go to Messages on mobile). You can start one-on-one conversations with any MOE user or create group chats. You don't need to be friends to start a conversation.

Question 45

How does chat image sharing work?

Accepted Answer

You can share images in chat (12 MB max, auto-compressed to WebP) — including HEIC photos straight from an iPhone. Images are available for 7 days — after that, they're automatically deleted unless you or a recipient saves (bookmarks) them. EXIF metadata including GPS data is stripped from images for privacy.

Question 46

What are chat storage quotas?

Accepted Answer

Media storage is limited by your subscription tier: Free (100 MB), Pro (500 MB), Extra (2 GB). You can check your usage in the chat panel. When you're near your limit (>90%), old unsaved media may be cleaned up.

Question 47

Are my chat messages private?

Accepted Answer

We do not actively read your private messages. However, chat messages and images may be automatically scanned by our AI-powered content moderation system to detect harmful or inappropriate content. Significant moderation actions include human review. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Question 48

What is event chat?

Accepted Answer

Each event has its own chat visible to invited attendees. This is separate from your personal 1:1 and group chats. Event chat messages are moderated by the same safety systems as regular chat.

Question 49

What is the AI Event Assistant?

Accepted Answer

The AI assistant helps you create and edit events using natural language. You can say things like "Plan a BBQ for 10 people next Saturday" and it will help fill in event details. It can also suggest friends to invite, find the best time based on availability, and answer questions about your own account — for example which people and organizations you follow, which organizations you belong to, and how many followers your organization has. Follower names are always private, so it can tell you a count but never who the followers are. Every account can try it with a one-time free AI credit; Pro and Extra plans get a monthly AI budget.

Question 50

What AI features are free?

Accepted Answer

All users get: auto-generated event descriptions (when you enter a title), AI birthday messages and party suggestions for friends, and the AI support chatbot on this page. Every account can also try the AI Event Assistant (conversational planning) with a one-time free AI credit; once that credit is used, continuing requires a paid plan.

Question 51

How does AI event scoring work?

Accepted Answer

When browsing public events, a 13-signal scoring engine ranks events based on your interests, location, friend attendance, past engagement, category preferences, and more. The core engine is deterministic. Paid tier users may get enhanced AI-augmented recommendations.

Question 52

Is my AI conversation data stored?

Accepted Answer

Yes — AI conversation history is stored so you can resume conversations. You can have up to 80 concurrent sessions. We also collect pseudonymized training data from AI interactions to improve our services. You can request deletion of your AI data by contacting support@myownevents.com.

Question 53

What data is sent to AI providers?

Accepted Answer

When using AI features, your conversation messages, event details, and friend names may be sent to our third-party AI provider for processing. For scheduling, we send only aggregated, anonymized free/busy availability (for example, the share of invitees free in a time window) — never your raw calendar event titles, guests, or locations, which are never sent to AI providers or used to train any AI model. Our AI provider also does not use your data to train their general models. See our Privacy Policy Section 3 for complete details.

Question 54

Can AI generate inappropriate content?

Accepted Answer

While we employ safety measures, AI-generated content (descriptions, messages, suggestions) may occasionally be inaccurate or inappropriate. You are responsible for reviewing all AI-generated content before publishing. AI-generated fields are marked with a sparkle indicator that disappears when you edit.

Question 55

What are AI usage budgets?

Accepted Answer

AI assistant usage is metered. Free accounts get a one-time free AI credit that does not renew; once it is used, the assistant needs a paid plan. Pro and Extra plans get a monthly budget based on the plan, which resets on the 1st of each month — when it is used up, the assistant is unavailable until then. Auto-generated descriptions and birthday messages use separate, smaller budgets available to all users.

Question 56

How do voice minutes work?

Accepted Answer

Talking with the AI assistant is measured in minutes, and only the time someone is talking or the assistant is answering counts — silence is free. Every account gets a one-time free trial. Pro and Extra include voice minutes every month; they reset on the 1st of each month, and unused minutes do not roll over to the next month. If you need more, you can buy extra minutes on any plan — bought minutes never expire and are used after your plan minutes and trial. Settings → Plan shows how many minutes you have left.

Question 57

Can minors use MyOwnEvents?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with restrictions. Users under 13 need verifiable parental consent (COPPA compliance). Users 13-17 need parental/guardian consent. Minors cannot create paid events, connect Stripe accounts, or join the affiliate program. They can create free RSVP events and attend events with parental approval.

Question 58

What restrictions apply to users under 18?

Accepted Answer

Minor users (under 18) cannot: create ticketed/paid events, connect a Stripe payment account, receive payouts, participate in the affiliate commission program, or purchase tickets without parental approval. They can create free events, RSVP to events, use chat, and participate in all other non-financial features.

Question 59

Some events say 18+ or 21+ — how does that work?

Accepted Answer

Hosts can restrict a public event to guests 18 or older, or 21 or older (for example, events involving alcohol, which by law require attendees to be 21+). To view an age-restricted event you must have your date of birth on your profile and meet the required age. This is based on the birthday you enter — MOE does not verify ages or IDs, so hosts and attendees are responsible for following the law and any age or alcohol regulations. Your birth year is never shown to anyone but you.

Question 60

How does MOE protect children's data?

Accepted Answer

We comply with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act). For children under 13, we collect only minimum necessary data with parental consent. Parents can review, modify, or request deletion of their child's data at any time. AI training data is not collected from children under 13 without explicit parental consent.

Question 61

Does MOE use my data for AI training?

Accepted Answer

Yes — we collect pseudonymized data from AI interactions (scoring, moderation, descriptions, conversations, birthday messages, support) to improve our AI systems. Account identifiers are replaced with a salted SHA-256 pseudonym before any data is exported, though the records still contain the content they were built from and free-text content may still mention names. You can request deletion of your training data by emailing support@myownevents.com. See our Privacy Policy Section 3 for full details.

Question 62

How is my content moderated?

Accepted Answer

User content (chat messages, images, event descriptions) is automatically scanned by AI safety systems. Flagged content may be reviewed by AI with surrounding context, and significant cases get human review. Account suspensions always include human review. You can appeal moderation decisions by contacting support.

Question 63

How do I report inappropriate content?

Accepted Answer

Use the flag/report icon on any message, event, or user profile. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team. You can also email support@myownevents.com. For content involving the exploitation of minors, we immediately remove the content and report to NCMEC and law enforcement.

Question 64

What privacy controls do I have?

Accepted Answer

In Profile > Account, you can control field-level visibility for email, phone, address, birthday, and occupation. In Settings > Privacy, you can hide yourself from the "Find Friends" browse feature, hide your activity status, and choose what the AI assistant can see of your calendar. Bio question responses have per-question privacy toggles. Calendar sync defaults to busy/free only (titles hidden). You can block individual users.
